the farm ..

Ok so it isn't really a farm but probably the closest we can have to one living in the middle of Fort Lauderdale.

Adam has been busting his ass building this garden for us and it keeps growing every week as he plants more and more. I take no credit except I water when he is gone. And Maia can't take any credit either except she has killed a couple of plants trying to fertilize them a little too much. "I was trying to help Mommy!"

So far we have harvested lots of basil for fresh pesto, eggplant and beans (which have sadly gotten sick and died.. :( )

In the works are tons of different types of (5) tomatoes, (4) peppers, spaghetti squash, beets, carrots, lettuce, swiss chard, celery, watermelon, butternut squash, canteloupe, tomatillos, rosemary, cilantro, chives. I got this list from Adam. He says thats it. He thinks. Oh yeah brussel sprouts. And bitter gourd. And cucumbers.. Ok, seriously, he thinks that is it. See what I mean? Yeah we will soon have our own farmer's market at 1809 SW 10th Ave. But you can't have any. Cause it's all for me. Especially the tomatoes.

Oh yeah.. and onions. :)

Also of note (although we didn't plant it) is this really cool plant which has white flowers that only open up at night.. If you are lucky, you can watch them pop open.. Then in the morning, the flowers curl back up.

More pics and posts soon as we start harvesting and cooking up some of these yummy things. Maybe I will share my favorite way to cook eggplant Indian style.

I'm gonna take my talents to south beach...

Tonight we finally did something we have been wanting to do for months. We went to a Miami heat game. And yes it just happens to be during the playoffs but my awesome boyfriend found some cheap tickets!

I had never been to an NBA game before as this is the first place I have lived that had a team. I hope we go plenty more times though next year as it was really fun. I was like a little kid. I used to play basketball growing up and used to watch NBA games with my brother but the past few years have gotten out of touch with the NBA. Of course being at the game is always more exciting than watching on the tube.

The lights and music were as exciting as the game, not to mention the little breaks with the guys playing bongo drums. Lots of dancing in our seats. Not to mention things like this...

We got some gear too. Here is a pic of the new LeBron.
Watch this video below on repeat a few times before you can fully appreciate it. Pay attention to Mike Tyson. :) Enjoy!

TAB show Tuscaloosa Amphitheatre 4/1/11

Yet another Avett Brothers show people!! I know. We can't help ourselves.

This time we made the journey home (for me) to Birmingham to see them at the grand opening show for the new Tuscaloosa amphitheater. If you live close to Tuscaloosa, I recommend checking it out. It is a really nice outdoor venue.

The show was sold out but we were good as we had bought our tickets a while back. No surprise that the Avett brothers are selling out more shows now that they performed on the Grammys with bob Dylan and Mumford and sons. The real kicker here was that the opener for TAB was Band of Horses! Yes an epic show.

We were in the general admission pit (normally we would prefer seats) cause we brought our dancing shoes with us this night.

It was a bit funny for me as someone coming from living in auburn for 5 years to go to a show in Tuscaloosa. I must say that T-town was much more diverse than auburn. A strange mixture of rednecks and wanna-be hipsters. I am used to all boys with long hair in the front wearing polo shirts and khakis and girls dressed to the 9's. Not the case this night. I was pleasantly surprised.

Funniest moment of the night was when we asked this dude sitting down if the pizza he was eating was good on a scale of 1 to 10. He responded "like with pizza hut being a 10?"

Nevermind. :)

springfest festivus

It always takes a few days of detox for us after visiting our favorite music park in northern florida. And I don't mean detox in the normal sense, but the in your face back-to-reality type of detox where you go from being absolutely completely at ease and relaxed to having to go back to the daily mundane stresses of work and life.

Last weekend we went to Springfest at the Spirit of Suwanee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. This was our first time to Springfest (we have previously been to Magfest in the fall and Wanee in the spring at the same park).  Springfest focuses on americana, folk, and bluegrass music. The festival grounds are huge including the Suwanee river, horse stables, tons of primitive camping spots, etc.. It is very serene and everyone there is always in a laid-back happy place for those 4 days. It's good for the soul.

Two highlights: Meagan came with us (cake) and the Avett Brothers were the headliner Saturday night (.. and the icing).

One bummer: No veggie things. ....tear.....

Our campsite was a little gem as with only a few thousand people there (as opposed to Wanee which was 30,000) there were lots of great spots left even though we arrived fairly late in the game on Friday evening. Although not too late, as we got to catch David Grisman. :)
Our campsite was on a main stretch and so we got to see many interesting things such as: 1) a golf cart retrofitted to look like a rat which was lit up at night... Exhibit A

2) the random suwanee joke man..
Joke 1:
(him) Knock Knock
(us) Who's there?
(him) Woo
(us) Woo who?
(him) WOO HOO!!!!

Joke 2:
Did you hear about Mickey and Minnie Mouse getting divorced?
Yeah, they were in court and the judge says to Mickey, "So, let me get this straight? You are divorcing Minnie because she is crazy?"
To which Mickey replied (in a New Jersey accent), "No, your honor, I said she is fucking goofy!!"

3) the drunk woman at 11 am laying in the open-netting bed part of a pop-up camper in a t-shirt and a thong yelling at her husband that she had to pee and she didn't care about any of the shit he was doing (which was filling their water tank in the camper) while we all watched and laughed and the poor sap shook his head saying "No more mimosas in the morning" or "You guys don't understand my life.."
Wish I had a pic to share for that one...

We spent quite a bit of time at the campsite just relaxing and enjoying overhearing our neighbors (5 kids, an older brother, and their very dedicated father) who were ironically from Fort Lauderdale.

Meagan don't be mad, but had to post your self-chocolating episode.. Note to self: Never mix eating chocolate while applying lotion. Unless you are into that sort of thing...

The Avett Brothers were incredible as usual and we were about 15 feet from the stage thanks to Meg and her excellent crowd-maneuvering. Here our are feet taking a break from dancing..

More pics to come soon....
